PROJECT MYEMYELA
Rethuseng Nursery, Lephepane, Limpopo Region, South Africa
University of Nottingham’s annual South Africa Project. Our scheme was chosen and we worked closely with an Architect to produce further detail drawings for construction in Easter 2017.
The design features a set of teaching rooms centred around a 3 point curved roof - an outside play space used by the nursery staff and children that is shaded in the hot climate and sheltered from rain during the monsoon. The build design was different to the group design in the orientation of the teaching pods, along with material changes - the corrugated steel roof was later changed to a fabric solution.
The three teaching pods are timber frame construction, whilst the shading roof is of steel and timber construction - the EPDM fabric cover for this will be attached in Easter 2019.
